Intention to Qualify

To be eligible for qualification register your intent to qualify by 5pm on the Friday before the registration deadline.

Click the blue 'Register' button on this page and log in with your Home Nation membership number and password. Click here for help.

Once registered, you will receive a confirmation email and will be added to the registration list below.

Check your registration has been successful by checking the registration list below before the deadline. (If you do not appear, check if you are moving up into another age group for the Championship year.)

No registrations will be accepted after the final registration time and date have passed. Athletes who register after 5pm on the deadline for a qualification race but then compete in that race will not be considered eligible for qualification from that race and their registration will only cover the remaining races.

5pm on the Friday 24th January 2020 is the first registration cut off date. After this date all 20 places per age group may be issued. The other two cut off dates are to allocate the remainng slots per age group.

Qualification

There are no specific qualifying races for the ITU Aquathlon World Championships.

Applicants need to supply evidence of their best aquathlon or triathlon performance at an event achieved between December 2018 to the final registration deadline of Friday 8th May 2020. If an age group becomes oversubscribed with eligible athletes then results achieved in the previous 12 months will supersede older results.

To be eligible for a qualifying place all athletes will be required to have completed their nominated race within 115% of the winner of their age group including athletes moving up into their age group during the race year.

Qualification evidence

Athletes will be required to submit performances providing the following information:

- Race name
- Race date
- Finish time and position
- Winner of Age-Groups time
- Link to the online results

The event should have chip timing and produces results into age group bands.

If you improve your best performance before the final registration deadline and would like to update the result, you can do this by follwoing the instructions found here and looking for "How do I update my result for multisport events?"

Athletes that have gained a qualification place in the 2020 ITU Cross or Long distance event in Almere will also be able to qualify, however these places shall be awarded during the third round of allocations and not before. For these athletes, they should put a link to the BTF event page in which they have qualified for, where it should show a Q next to their name, along with the times they submitted for their previous qualification. If these athletes wish to submit a specific aquathlon/triathlon result in order to be considered during earlier rounds of allocation, to ensure their place on the team, they are welcome to do so.

The registration deadlines are as follows:

  1. 5pm 24th January 2020
  2. 5pm 20th March 2020
  3. 5pm 8th May 2020

We understand that many aquathlons are run on a smaller scale when compared to triathlons so performance times will be taken into account.

Whilst achieving the following times will not guarantee your qualification, this table provides a guideline as to a minimum requirement that is necessary to be considered.

Any athlete that has not qualified due to limited spaces may still be able to qualify with a rolldown place. Details of rolldown places can be found here

If you are moving up an age group in 2019, then your qualification will be based on where your finishing time would have placed you in the age-group category you will be racing for in 2020. Please note that you may finish in the top four in your age group category but an athlete moving into that age group can potentially push you out of a qualifying position if their time is faster. Please see point 8.3 in the Terms and Conditions.

Pre-Qualification

To Pre-Qualify for the 2020 ITU World Championship race, athletes must finish in the top 15 places in their age group and be one of the first three British athletes to finish in the 2019 ITU World Championship race.

Athletes must also confirm their intent to take up their Pre-Qualified place in writing by the dedline date.

Further details regarding pre-qualification can be found within our pre-qualification policy

Allocation of Places

  • There are 20 places available in each age group.

  • All 20 places could be awarded during the first selection phase if enough athletes apply and meet the qualification criteria. The remaining selection phases will allocate any remaining places.

  • If more than 20 athletes qualify in an age-group then after places are allocated as per results from within 12 months the remaining athletes will be given a rolldown percentage, where relevant, based on the performance result they submitted at the time of registration and may be eligible for a rolldown place.

  • Allocation of places will be awarded following the 3 registration deadlines outlined in the section above. This may take up to two weeks afetr the deadline. Qualified athletes will be notified by e-mail and will also be marked with a 'Q' next to their name in the registered athletes list below.

Entry

Entries for this event are processed via British Triathlon. If you have qualified, you will receive an email informing you of relevant payment dates and how to proceed with the payment. Late payments will not be accepted.
