To be eligible to qualify and compete in this event you must be 16 on the 31st of December 2022. Do not register your interest if you do not meet this age limit, you will be unable to qualify, and the £10 registration fee is non-refundable.

Qualification

This section applies to athletes who are registering with a race result. Athletes must press the register button to register, if the button is not there then registration is not open or, the athlete has already registered for the event. The deadline to register is 5pm Friday the 28th January 2022. No late registrations will be considered.

Qualification Criteria;

  • Race results MUST have been chip timed.
  • Race results MUST be from a sprint distance triathlon with the swim in open water, the bike on tarmac and the run taking place mainly on paths.
  • Race results MUST have a minimum of 100 people in the finishing results but, races with 300 plus finishers in the results will be considered first. See below for how results will be weighted-this is very important.
  • (Races with less than 100 finishers will not be considered. (Finishers is defined as those participants who finished a race or, appear as a DNS, DQ or DNF)
  • Races may be from 2019 onward but earlier races will be considered first, see below for how results will be weighted this year-this is very important
  • Athletes finishing times MUST be within 120% of the winner of the age group. If an athlete moves up an age group in the Championship year then they must use the results from the age group which they will move into. Example, an athletes is now 49 and turns 50 in 2022. They must compare their result to the results from the 50-54 age group.
  • No late registrations will be considered or permitted.
  • The £10 registration fee is non-refundable. No changes of any kind can be made after the final registration cut off date.
  • Results must be from a time when racing was considered competitive after lockdowns in England, Wales and Scotland-see below for details. If an athlete submits a non-competitive result their registration will not be considered.
  • Results also need to be from when results were deemed competitive in the UK. Please click here for further details.
  • Athletes who have already competed in a qualifying race may change their result by logging into their British Triathlon account and going to the "Age Group Listing" section then pressing "Edit" next to the event they want to edit their registration for. The percentage from the qualifying race will remain until after the registration closing date and the Team Manager will consider the best result.

Results Weighting

Results where athletes have submitted their own result will be weighted using the guidelines below;

  • Races which took place in 2021, 2020 or 2019 and were Europe Triathlon or World Triathlon Qualifying races, Europe Triathlon or World Triathlon Championships, British or Home Nations Championships and had more than 300 competitors in the race and where the athletes finishing percentage was under 109.99% will be considered first as W1. Results to be considered in the order mentioned above. Athletes who have taken part in a qualifying race in 2021 and who achieved a finishing percentage of 115% or below will also be considered as W1.
  • Races which took place in 2019, 2020, or 2021 and were Europe Triathlon or World Triathlon Qualifying races, Europe Triathlon or World Triathlon Championships, British or Home Nations Championships and had more than 300 competitors in the race and where the athletes finishing percentage was between 115.01% and 120% will be considered as W2. Results to be considered in the order mentioned above. Athletes who have taken part in a qualifying race in 2021 and who achieved a finishing percentage of over 115.01% will also be considered as W2.
  • Races which took place in 2019, 2020 or 2021 and had between 200 to 299 competitors will be considered as W3
  • Races which took place from 2019 and had between 100 to 199 finishers in will be considered as W4.

Athletes who moved their Q from 2021 to 2022 due to travel restrictions at the time they were offered a place on the 2021 team must have registered for their 2022 Q by 5pm Friday the 22nd of October 2021. No late PQ registrations will be accepted.

Note - after the 2021 PQs have been added, all athletes in the teams will have their Q confirmed. This may take a while if some age groups are over-subscribed, but all qualified athletes will be notified via email. Athletes are encouraged NOT to book travel or accommodation until their place in the team is confirmed.

Then those who have been allocated places from qualifying races will be allocated their Qs. Where an age group has more than 20 allocated places, we will apply to the race organiser for more places in that age group. This may not be determined until closer to the event. Where it is not possible for all athletes to compete in the 2022 Championships, athletes will be asked to voluntarily move their Q to the 2023 Championships. If age groups are still oversubscribed, athletes with Qs will be moved to the 2023 Championships according to their qualifying result. This is a worst-case scenario.

To qualify for this event athletes must register their intent to qualify on this page and must take part in at least one of the three specific qualification races detailed below. Athletes only need to enter one race to qualify although can enter more if they wish. The £10 registration fee covers all three qualifying races.

You do not need to specify which qualification race(s) you are doing, if you register before the deadline appropriate to your race(s) (see below) your registration will be included. Athletes who register after 5pm on the deadline for a qualification race but then compete in that race will not be considered eligible for qualification from that race and their registration will only cover the remaining races. Once a registration deadline has passed, registration will stay closed for the weekend and re-open on the following Monday.

Qualification races:

Race 1: Mallory Park - 18/07/2021. Race organiser  Race Rapid

If you intend to qualify at this race, you must register your intent to qualify by 5pm Friday 16/07/2021

Race 2: Redcar Sprint Triathlon - 25/07/2021. Race organiser TriHard Events

If you intend to qualify at this race, you must register your intent to qualify by 5pm Friday 23/07/2021

Registration will close at 5pm on the Friday before each qualifying race and will re-open the following Monday at midday.

To qualify athletes are needed to finish a qualification race in a time which is within 120% of the winner in their age group.

Places will be offered automatically to the 4 highest placed athletes per age group who finished within 120% of the winner of their age-group and, that have not already qualified at a previous race. This includes athletes moving up an age group during the Championship year.

Any athlete finishing within the 4 highest places as outlined above but outside 120% of the winner of their age-group will only be offered a place at the Team Manager’s discretion.
Any athlete finishing outside the automatic places but inside 120% of the winner of their age-group may still be able to qualify with a rolldown place. Details of rolldown places can be found here.

After each qualifying race the Team Manager will go through the results and allocate the places and rolldown % to all athletes who took part. This may take up to 2 weeks. Successful athletes will be notified of their qualification by email.

Athletes who have a % next to their name after the qualification race may be eligible for a rolldown place. These will start to be issued approximately 1 month after the final qualifying race.

In order to be eligible to qualify and compete in this event you must be 16 on the 31st of December 2022. Please do not register your interest if you will not meet this age limit, as you will be unable to qualify and compete in the championship.

* Race may be draft legal.

**Please Note: As the qualification races take place in the year preceding the Championships, qualification is based on your finishing time compared to those athletes who will be in your age group the year of the Championships. If you are moving up an age group in 2020, then your qualification will be based on where your finishing time would have placed you in the age-group category you will be racing for in 2020. Please note that you may finish in the top four in your age group category but an athlete moving into that age group can potentially push you out of a qualifying position if their time is faster. Please see point 8.3 in the Terms and Conditions.
