Pre-Qualification Policy

2021 ITU World Championship Sprint and Standard Triathlon and Duathlon Pre-Qualification Policy

The same criteria apply for all 2021 World Triathlon World Championship events and distances. Pre-qualification places cannot be transferred to different events, distances or years.

Athletes will be eligible for pre-qualification to a 2021 World Triathlon World Championship Sprint or Standard Triathlon or Duathlon event if they have met one of the following standards:

  • Finish in the top 15 athletes in your Age-Group and be one of the first 3 Great Britain athletes in your Age-Group at the equivalent 2020 World Triathlon World Championship event.
  • (This includes athletes moving up an Age-Group. PQ places are not rolled down if an athlete who does PQ moves up an age group.)
  • Be the 2020 British Champion at the equivalent event and distance.
(The 2020 Great Britain Age-Group Champion will be eligible to pre-qualify for the 2021 World Age-Group Championships. This includes athletes moving up an Age-Group.)

If you have pre-qualified, then you must notify the Team Manager and the British Triathlon Age-Group Administrator at agegroup@britishtriathlon.org that you have registered and intend to take up your pre-qualification place in writing by 5pm on the final registration deadline. Failure to do this before the final registration deadline will result in your place not being awarded.

It is your responsibility to check the Age-Group event registration list to confirm that you have a ‘PQ’ next to your name by 5pm on the final registration deadline. If it is not showing you must immediately contact the Team Manager and Age-Group Administrator by email. Once the first roll down places have been awarded, normally two weeks after the final registration deadline, it is no longer possible to award pre-qualification places. If the final registration deadline is before the current Championship race, the registration window will be open for a period of 4-6 weeks post the Championship race to allow those who wish to take up their PQ place to register and also inform the Team Manager they wish to take up their PQ place. This will be confirmed by email to the athletes who have PQ'd.

Please Note:

  • Placing in a European Championship will not give pre-qualification for a World Championship.
