Pre-Qualification Policy

2017 World Championship Pre-Qualification Policy

The same criteria apply for all 2017 ITU World Championship events and distances. Pre-qualification places cannot be transferred to different events, distances or years.

Athletes will be eligible for pre-qualification to a 2017 ITU World Championship Event if they have met one of the following standards:

  • Be in the top 15 athletes in your Age-Group and amongst the first 3 Great British athletes in your Age-Group at the equivalent 2016 ITU world championship event.
(This includes athletes moving up an Age-Group. Pre-qualification places do not roll down to anyone who does not finish amongst the outright top 15 athletes in the Age-Group.)
  • Be the 2016 British Champion at the equivalent event and distance.
(The 2016 Great Britain Age-Group Champion will be eligible to pre-qualify for the 2017 World Age-Group Championships. This includes athletes moving up an Age-Group.)

If you have pre-qualified, then you must notify the Team Manager and the British Triathlon Age-Group Administrator at agegroup@britishtriathlon.org that you have registered and intend to take up your pre-qualification place in writing by 5pm on the final registration deadline. Failure to do this before the final registration deadline will result in your place not being awarded.

It is your responsibility to check the Age-Group event registration list to confirm that you have a ‘PQ’ next to your name by 5pm on the final registration deadline. If it is not showing you must immediately contact the Team Manager and Age-Group Administrator by email. Once the first roll down places have been awarded, normally two weeks after the final registration deadline, it is no longer possible to award pre-qualification places.

Please Note:

  • Placing in a European Championship will not give pre-qualification for a World Championship.
