A world and European medallist in para-swimming, Megan Richter now combines swimming with bike and run and has already achieved international success in paratriathlon.
Megan represented Great Britain in para-swimming from as young as 13 when she made her international debut at the European Junior Swimming Championships in 2014.
Since then, Megan went onto achieve international success at senior level, including podium finishes at World and European Championships.
Megan returned from the 2019 European Para-Swimming Championships with three medals, claiming silvers in both the 100m backstroke S8 and 200m individual medley SM8, and 100m breaststroke SB7 bronze in Dublin at the age of 17.
A year later and it was a World Championships to remember for Megan, not only because of the home crowd inside the London Aquatics Centre, but it was a medal-winning meet for the Birmingham-based athlete.
Megan followed-up her European medal successes with World bronze in the women’s 100m backstroke S8.
At that time, Megan had also started her paratriathlon journey having first took-up the sport in 2017 after seeing an advert for a talent ID day.
Her first experience of multisport came at the British Paraduathlon Championships in early 2018, only a few months before Megan’s European medal successes in para-swimming.
Following her successes in the pool, Megan returned to swim, bike, run competition later in the year, representing Great Britain for the first time in paratriathlon at World Triathlon Para Cup Funchal, winning women’s PTS4 gold.
Having initially made the decision to prioritise para-swimming, Megan made paratriathlon her focus from 2020, alongside studying for her biomedical science degree at the University of Sheffield.
Megan returned to international paratriathlon competition in 2022, including placing fourth at her first World Triathlon Para Championships in Abu Dhabi.
Although primarily known as coming from a swimming background, due to her international success, Megan has also competed in athletics at a national level.
