Long Distance Triathlon
Racing elite at long distance triathlon
British Triathlon does not currently run an Elite Licence system. Athletes who wish to race elite in Ironman and other long distance triathlon events may be asked by the organisers for an Elite Licence. These athletes should send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org outlining the following:
- Races that they are planning to apply for as an elite/pro (specifically the distances).
- Race results over the past 18 months which prove their ability to race at Elite Level (according to the criteria on the link below).
- Links to the race results above.
The first criteria is that athletes must be current members of one of the Home Nations Associations and be eligible to race for GBR (which includes holding a British passport). Further criteria under which a professional licence will be granted are outlined on the link below. In line with the increased standards being demanded of the long distance race organisers such as Ironman and Challenge, the criteria to race elite at these events has been tightened up as of 30th June 2017.
