Course Information
• We all have mental health but we think and talk about it far less than our physical health, even though it is just as important to our overall wellbeing.
• Protecting the positive mental health of young people is important because without it, they can struggle at school or college and become isolated from family, friends and community activities.
• Coaches and club volunteers can play a vital role, spotting signs and symptoms, without being experts. We train to give physical first aid without hesitation – so why not mental health first aid too?
Triathlon England: London Region are delighted to be collaborating with StreetGames in delivering a Youth Mental Health First Aid (YMHFA) course that is adapted to both the sports environment and to young people. This YMHFA course destigmatises mental ill health and attendees report greater confidence in managing situations where young people do present with troubling symptoms.
The workshop is open to those over 16 years old.
StreetGames are at the forefront of an innovative campaign to train 21,000 sports coaches and volunteers in mental health awareness by 2021 alongside a variety of sports, business and policy-making organisations right across the UK.
