Virtual Challenge MOB Match: Results

20 London clubs took part in the London Region Virtual Challenge MOB match over the week of 20th July.

Due to the COVID-19 lockdown the London League was cancelled for 2020. However, the London Region decided it would like to invite London club members to take part in a London Clubs Virtual MOB match, taking place within the AJ Bell World Triathlon Leeds 2020 Virtual Challenge between 20-26th July 2020.
As everyone isn’t “race ready” the focus was on completion, not times, and the club with the most club members taking part in any one of the three distances will win the Virtual MOB match.

There were three virtual duathlon distances to choose from:

GO TRI 3.75km 10km
Sprint 7.50km 20km
Standard 15.0km 40km

Each participant had a week to complete their chosen distance and could take as many sessions to complete the challenge as needed. Activities needed to be recorded on Strava to be included in the results and the activities could be outdoors or virtual.

Due to the Garmin outage the results have been delayed by a few days whilst we checked all the data.

A massive congratulations to London Frontrunners who had a massive 25 participants completing their challenge. In a close run thing, second place went to Westcroft Triathlon Club with 18 completions, just one participant behind and rounding off the podium in 3rd are Crystal Palace Triathletes with 17 participants.

The London Region Chair, Chris Hall said ;

"Fantastic to see such a spread of our London clubs participating in the virtual challenge. The GPS gods tried to throw a spanner in the works with a beautifully timed global Garmin outage, but we got there undeterred! Hopefully virtual races won't make up too much of the future race calendar, as you can never recreate that sticky, energy gel under foot feeling as you pass through the aid stations!! That said, thanks to everyone that took part, and thanks to TE for collating the results and bringing a glimmer to racing hope back in time for the summer!"

We had 134 participants in the MOB match from London Clubs and huge thanks from the committee to all the clubs that support the regions first Virtual MOB match.
