VONCRANK London League 2017: Round 1

Published:

The flat course meant racing was fast and furious.....

Glorious sunshine greeted the start of the 2017 edition of the 12 race London League, sponsored by VONCRANK, which kicked-off on Sunday (9 April,) at the Ful-on Tri Duathlon.

The flat course meant racing was fast and furious as you would expect on the Top Gear test track at Dunsfold Aerodrome.  146 run-bike-runners over two waves took to the start line under sunny skies, with all the big London Clubs keen to get off to a good start.

Conditions stayed hot and sunny over the 6km/20km/6km duathlon format with none of the heavy rain experienced at previous events at the famed Surrey airfield, meaning suncream rather than an umbrella was the order of the day.

For the Men, 1st home in the Open Category was Tom Higgins for Thames turbo/Team Freespeed with Ful-on Tri's Euan Lees taking the honours in the Vets Category.
For the Women it was Ruth Purbrook from host club Ful-on Tri in the Open Category with Catherine Linney from Met Police in the Vets Category.

In the Team Competitions Ful-on swept the board winning the Men's, Women's, Mixed and Mob Match.  Thames Turbo also had a strong showing coming 3rd , 2nd and 2nd in the Women's, Men's and Mixed respectively and Clapham rounded out the Mixed podium with 2nd in the Women's and =5th in the Men's.

The London League racing now comes thick and fast with only two weeks to go until race 2 and the Kingfisher Aquathlon.
