A busy weekend for Brits in World and Europe Triathlon Cup action

British representation extends across the globe this weekend during a busy few days of racing including World Triathlon and Europe Triathlon events, ensuring there’s plenty of British interest for followers of swim, bike, run.

2022 World Triathlon Para Cup Alanya (15 October)

Turkey is the next destination for the latest World Triathlon Para Cup during a weekend of swim, bike, run in the beach resort city of Alanya.

Six British paratriathletes will take to the World Triathlon Para Cup start line on Saturday (15 October) including Commonwealth champion Katie Crowhurst in the women’s PTVI, she will be guided by Ella Beard for the first time.

Crowhurst is one of four British paratriathlon champions competing in Alanya, with men’s PTVI champion Bret Crossley lining up alongside British silver medallist Josh Landmann in the men’s PTWC.

British men’s PTS2 champion, Colin Wallace, will be back on the international start line after his first international win at Europe Triathlon Cup Bari last month, as will men’s PTS4 champion Finley Jakes who won silver at World Triathlon Para Series Montreal earlier this year.

Oscar Kelly and his guide Charlie Harding will compete for the first time since finishing fourth in the men’s PTVI at World Triathlon Para Series Swansea, which followed silver in Montreal and a fifth place at Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games.

The race starts with a 750m swim in the Mediterranean Sea before transitioning onto three laps of the bike course along the seafront totalling 20km, and then a 5km run around the city’s streets to finish.

2022 World Triathlon Cup Tongyeong (15 October)

The latest World Triathlon Cup is also taking place this weekend with six British triathletes making the journey over to Tongyeong in South Korea.

Olivia Mathias has had top-five finishes in the two World Triathlon Cups she has competed in this year, and the Commonwealth Games mixed relay silver medallist will be back on the start line as Great Britain’s sole representative in the elite women’s race.

Sam Dickinson is another Commonwealth Games medallist competing in Tongyeong, with the gold medal winning Team England mixed relay team member one of five British men on the start list.

British elite triathlon champion Connor Bentley will also be racing along with Ben Dijkstra, Harry Leleu and Jack Willis, who all represented Great Britain at this year’s Europe Triathlon Championships in Munich either in the individual or mixed relay events.

Beth Potter led a British one-two in the women’s race last year over the sprint distance, with this year’s event being contested over the standard distance of a 1.5km swim, a multi-loop 40km bike and then a four-lap run course totalling 10km.

Live race coverage will be available on triathlonlive.tv/. The women’s race starts at midnight (BST) followed by the men’s race at 3am (BST).

2022 Europe Triathlon Cup Alanya (16 October)

The day after the World Triathlon Para Cup in Alanya, the Turkish city will also host a Europe Triathlon Cup event, again featuring strong British representation with 11 Brits expected to be in action.

British elite triathlon champion Jess Fullagar will represent Great Britain internationally for the first time where she will be joined by two more race winners from this year’s British Triathlon Senior Super Series, with Daisy Davies and Iona Miller both on the start list.

Sophia Green and Annabel Morton are also racing having had experience of racing at World Triathlon Cup level along with Miller, while Katie Rodda completes the British line-up and heads to Turkey off the back of a top-20 finish at Europe Triathlon Cup Ceuta last weekend.

British Triathlon Senior Super Series champion Hamish Reilly, who was ninth in Ceuta, will also be back in action in Turkey, where Commonwealth Games top-10 finishers Grant Sheldon and Iestyn Harrett will both be competing too.

Chris Perham continues his busy period of racing, which has included becoming European aquathlon champion and competing in the Super League Triathlon Championship Series, while Jack Stanton-Stock comes off the back of finishing third overall in this year’s British Triathlon Senior Super Series.

2022 IRONMAN 70.3 Portugal-Cascais (15 October)

There’s also going to be plenty of British interest in long course racing this weekend, including at IRONMAN 70.3 Portugal-Cascais where as many as 10 British pro triathletes are expected to be racing.

Nikki Bartlett already has one IRONMAN 70.3 race win to her name in 2022 and will line-up again in the women’s pro race in what could be a busy field of British pros. Tara Grosvenor, Rosie Weston, Laura Addie, Lizzie Rayner, Rachel Brown and Kate Curran are all on the start list.

The men’s race will see Thomas Davis continue what has already been a busy season – including multiple top-10s at Challenge events – while Will Munday and Joshua Lewis will also be ones-to-watch.

2022 Challenge Peguera-Mallorca (15 October)

The action just keeps on coming and Challenge Peguera-Mallorca represents one of the final opportunities for pro athletes to add points towards the Challenge Family Pro Athlete World Bonus.

Fenella Langridge is currently heading the women’s standings and arrives on the Spanish island off the back of a sixth-place finish on her Kona debut at the IRONMAN World Championships last week.

Lucy Byram was also in action last weekend, winning at IRONMAN 70.3 Jesolo, and has a first and second place in Challenge events this season. Caroline Livesey and Megan McDonald are also on the women’s pro start list.

In the men’s race, Tom Bishop will be back on the start line a week after finishing seventh in Jesolo, as will Will Draper who finished 10th last weekend. James Scott-Farrington has been a regular in the top-10 at the IRONMAN 70.3 events he’s started this season, a trend he will be wanting to maintain, with Sam Wade and Brett Halliwell also competing.
