A guide to representing the Great Britain Age-Group Team in aquabike

Published:

Aquabike is the next multisport in our guide to representing the Great Britain Age-Group Team with the sport giving age group athletes the opportunity to represent their country across the swim-bike format.

The GB Age-Group Team offers all Home Nation members a unique opportunity to compete at World and European Championships in triathlon, duathlon, aquathlon, aquabike, winter triathlon, cross triathlon and cross duathlon.

Aquabike is a relatively new format in multisport, comprising both swim and bike as athletes start with the swim before transitioning onto the bike.

The races can vary in length including standard, middle and long distance events at Championship-level with the standard distance usually a 1.5km swim followed by a 40km bike.

In 2021, the GB Age-Group Team claimed 12 medals at the World Triathlon Long Distance Aquabike Championships in the Netherlands including six golds. Two of the newly-crowned world champions were Luhan Bely in the 18-19 age group and Michael Smallwood in the 75-79 age group, highlighting the breadth of opportunity available across the age groups.

There are three qualifying events scheduled for 2022 for athletes to gain qualification for the 2023 World Standard Aquabike Championships:
