A swim, bike and fun-fuelled weekend of upcoming events

England is packed with a variety of multisport action whilst Wales begin a return to activity in Pembrey, the Isle of Man host their very own triathlon championships and Scotland takes on cross triathlon.

ActiveTrainingWorld’s Box End Triathlon takes participants on a 750m swim around a wakeboarding lake that will begin in time trial format. The swim will make way for an 18.7km cycle for Sprint participants and a 37.4km cycle in the Standard distance race.

The final leg throws up undulating terrain on a 5km looped run course with Standard distance participants taking on two laps before reaching the finish.

The venue has proven popular, with Box End hosting the National Sprint Triathlon Championships in 2019. Everyone who crosses the finish line this weekend will receive a medal and the event organisers are also awarding trophies to the overall podium and age group winners.

The Shropshire Triathlon is set to light up the West Midlands this weekend as the event is officially listed as one of the fastest nine triathlons in the UK.

The event has been held at The Mere at Ellesmere since 1992, a venue that was awarded the Green Flag Award in 2014. Participants have the options of Sprint and Olympic distance, as well as relay options and a brand-new middle distance race that’s raced across a challenging 2km swim, 78km cycle and 20km run.

The Shropshire Triathlon will begin with an open water swim in The Mere before a cycle through the Shropshire and Welsh countryside. The event finishes on a closed-to-traffic run course after which those who cross the finish line will be able to claim their 2020 finishers medal.

For the more adventurous triathlete, The Helvellyn Triathlon is set to take place in the Lake District this weekend. Being one of the original challenge triathlons in the UK, The Helvellyn Triathlon will mark its 17th year this coming weekend.

The event has been nominated as one of the ten hardest triathlons in the world by Triathlete magazine and will offer aquabike, individual and relay racing options. Boasting narrow and twisty Lakeland roads, a long and hilly cycle route and a run course that mixes track, fell and road running, The Helvellyn Triathlon will provide a tough challenge for those willing to take it on. Please note that there are no spectators permitted at this event.

Yorkshire’s Blue Lagoon will be the host to multisport activity once more, with a number of events set to take place this weekend.

After a successful return to activity last month with ¼, ½ and ¾ triathlons, Evolve is back with an aquathlon event as well as mini and Sprint triathlons this weekend.

Participants will have a choice of Sprint or Standard aquathlon distances as well as a junior option available in various TriStar distances to ensure that the whole family can take part in the fun. The mini triathlon will challenge participants to a 400m swim, 10km bike and a 2.5km run.

In the South West, Bournemouth International Triathlon brings both Sprint and Standard distance racing to east side of Bournemouth Pier. Beginning on the award-winning blue flag beach, participants will then head out of Bournemouth on a flat bike course towards Ringwood before hitting the seafront promenade to complete the run accompanied by views of the Isle of Wight.

There’s also the option to take on the aquathlon that challenges participants to a 750m swim and a 5km run.

In Scotland, Scurry Events are hosting a cross triathlon event for the second year running. The Lochore Off Road Triathlon 2020 can be completed in a variety of disciplines including triathlon, aquathlon, aquabike and cross duathlon.

In line with Covid-19 guidance, a time trial start will be enforced as well as participants being briefed on the race prior to the event. There are no spectators are allowed at this event.

Leybourne Lakes Country Park in Aylesford will be hosting a Sprint endurance triathlon event in and around Ocean Lake. Beginning with a 750m open water lake swim, participants will then take on two 10km laps of the cycle course before finishing with a two-lap 2.5km run around the lake itself. Those who cross the finish line will be rewarded with their very own finishers medal.

Near Windsor, The Dorney Lake Triathlon has options for triathlon, duathlon, aquabike or a lake swim. These are all available at various distances, allowing for participants of all skill and interest levels to take part.

The Microgaming Isle of Man Triathlon Championships are also set to take place at Mooragh Park this weekend. The event can be completed at both Sprint and Standard distance either as an individual or a team.

Finally, two waves of 50 participants will take part in a Sprint distance duathlon as the Return to Play at Pembrey acts as a test event for Wales. Participants will face a 5km run, 17.5km bike and a final 2.5km run to the finish.
