A weekend of treats with Super League and IRONMAN 70.3 titles up for grabs

Published:

British triathletes will certainly be hoping there’s more treats than tricks this weekend with titles being decided in Super League Triathlon and IRONMAN 70.3, as well as the penultimate World Triathlon Cup of the year in Miyazaki.

Super League Triathlon Championship Series Neom (29 October)

After four races in four different locations, it all comes down to this weekend in the Super League Triathlon Championship Series and there’s still plenty to race for as the British triathletes get ready to duel in the desert in Saudi Arabia.

Georgia Taylor-Brown, who won in Munich and Toulouse, is currently joint-top of the women’s standings with Taylor Spivey (USA), setting up what has become a winner takes all final race in Neom.

Sophie Coldwell and Beth Potter will likely go head-to-head for the remaining podium spot, with the British pair third and fourth, respectively, in the overall standings having delivered consistent performances throughout the series so far.

Kate Waugh also occupies a top-10 place, while Non Stanford, Sian Rainsley and Sophia Green ensure there’s plenty of British interest to follow during the grand finale.

In the men’s standings, Jonny Brownlee is the top-ranked British athlete in fifth and can still end the series on the podium depending on results. Dan Dixon is on the edge of the overall top-10 and will be another athlete to watch, especially after his strong showing in Malibu, as will Chris Perham, who has had a busy few weeks including becoming European Aquathlon Champion.

It's the enduro format for the final event which will see athletes complete swim, bike, run three times back-to-back, with the women’s race starting at 12:20 (BST) followed by the men’s race at 13:40. Watch live on BBC iPlayer, SLT TV and Discovery+.

HOW TO WATCH

World Triathlon Cup Miyazaki (29 October)

Olivia Mathias, Connor Bentley, Ben Dijkstra, Harry Leleu and Jack Willis will continue their tour of Asia when they line-up at World Triathlon Cup Miyazaki on Saturday (29 October).

They all competed at World Triathlon Cup Tongyeong, South Korea, two weeks ago with top-10 finishes for both Willis and Mathias, as well as bronze for Sam Dickinson who isn’t racing in Japan.

Willis and Mathias will be back on the start line this weekend, as will Bentley, Dijkstra and Leleu, who all placed inside the top-30 out of the 65-strong field in Tongyeong.

It’s the sprint distance in Miyazaki – rather than the standard distance in Tongyeong – with the course including a beach start into the 750m swim, before a 20km bike and then a 5km run to the finish.

Live race coverage will be on triathlonlive.tv for anyone wanting some early morning viewing, with the women’s race starting at 1am (BST) followed by the men’s race at 3:30am.
