Angellica Bell and British Triathlon encourage the nation to get active this January

Published:

British Triathlon and GO TRI are working with TV presenter Angellica Bell to launch Tri January 2020 to help the nation kickstart the new year by getting active with swim, bike and run.

Tri January helped over 5,000 people to get active in 2019 through swimming, cycling and running their way through one of three distances.

This year, participants in the campaign will be tasked to join One Show presenter Angellica Bell in completing a bingo card of fitness challenges.

Challenges on the bingo card include taking on a gym challenge, going for a swim at your local pool and doing a spin class; helping to set participants on their way to a healthy and active lifestyle in 2020.

Tri January Ambassador and participant Angellica Bell said: “I’m so excited to get involved with Tri January. It’s a fantastic free campaign offering people an opportunity to get active in bitesize stages. I only learnt to swim in 2015 and learnt to ride a bike in 2016 so I’m excited to get my teeth into a new challenge. I would encourage anyone looking to kick start their fitness signs up Tri January.”

GO TRI is British Triathlon’s beginner programme aimed at making triathlon and its three disciplines accessible to all. Funded through Sport England and The National Lottery, the campaign is being supported by This Girl Can to encourage more women to take up physical activity.

This Girl Can is a hugely successful campaign established by Sport England in 2015 to help address the gender gap in regular participation in exercise. This Girl Can is celebrating its 5th anniversary in 2020 and will be launching several new projects which encourage women to give exercise a go.

Frances Drury, Senior Marketing Activation Manager at Sport England said: “Tri January is a great way of opening up what is often perceived as an intimidating and gruelling discipline, allowing those that participate to start small with accessible fitness challenges.”

Jenny Vincent, Head of Participation at British Triathlon, said: “We were thrilled by the success of Tri January in 2019 and we are even more excited to bring it back for the 2020. We want to thank Sport England and This Girl Can for their support.

“Tri January is the perfect opportunity for anyone looking to get active in the New Year. We have created a new bingo card for participants to complete which includes lots of exciting activities and I hope everyone that signs up loves getting active in January.”
