2022 Arena Games Triathlon Series Munich powered by Zwift

Conceived during the 2020 Covid-19 lockdown, the Arena Games blends real life and virtual racing together across swim, bike, run and will this year form the first eSports Triathlon World Championships with the events contributing to World Triathlon rankings.

The three-event championships will see events take place in Munich, London and Singapore, with the German city hosting the first race this weekend.

The format will be two heats of two sets of swim, bike, run, with a 200m pool swim, 4km Zwift bike and 1km Zwift run using smart trainers and self-powered curve treadmills, before a final of three stages back-to-back with the order of the disciplines shuffled each time.

Having previously tasted Arena Games success last year, Beth Potter is the sole Brit in the women’s line up and will take part in heat one alongside the likes of Ilaria Zane (ITA) and Lena Meisner (GER).

In the men’s race both Alex Yee and Gordon Benson line up in heat two where they will be joined by German Justus Nieschlag. Defending Arena Games champion, Marten Van Riel (BEL) is in the first heat.

2022 Europe Triathlon Powerman Middle Distance Duathlon Championships Alsdorf

The Arena Games is not the only international event taking place in Germany this weekend which will include British interest.

Over 75 athletes representing the Great Britain Age-Group Team will head to the west of Germany, near to its border with the Netherlands and Belgium, for the 2022 Europe Triathlon Powerman Middle Distance Duathlon Championships in Alsdorf.

The racing is being held on Sunday (10 April) with athletes competing to win the European title and medals in their respective age group over a 10km run, 58.65km bike before a final 10km run to the finish line.

It’s one of the largest team sizes Great Britain have sent to the middle distance championships with 19 of the 23 age groups featuring at least one British athlete on the start list.

Around half of the team will be representing Great Britain at an Age-Group Championships for the first time, while, alongside the Age-Group debutants, there will also be many GB Age-Group Team regulars looking to add to their medal hauls.
