Austria and Spain welcome British elites for busy multisport weekend

The 2021 Europe Triathlon Sprint and Relay Championships Kitzbühel host elite, U23 and junior triathlon whilst the 2021 World Triathlon Para Cup A Coruna features elite paratriathlon action.

2021 Europe Triathlon Sprint and Relay Championships Kitzbühel

Kitzbühel is set to host a huge weekend of triathlon racing with elite, U23 and junior athletes all competing across elimination rounds and mixed relay races. Athletes will race in one of two semi-finals, in which the top ten finishers in each race will then compete in a final race to determine the overall victors.

Gordon Benson returns to racing after traveling to Mexico last weekend. Benson achieved a 6th place finish when he raced at the 2021 World Triathlon Cup Lisbon and will be joined at Kitzbühel by Sam Dickinson who races for the first time since AJ Bell 2021 World Triathlon Championship Series Leeds, a race in which he recorded the fastest bike leg of the field.

Sian Rainsley also pulls on GB colours after achieving a 13th place finish at AJ Bell 2021 World Triathlon Championship Series Leeds. Rainsley raced at the 2021 Europe Triathlon Cup Caorle this year where she finished in front of Carlotta Missaglia (ITA) to occupy the top five.

Cameron Main makes the start list for the U23 races, the Scottish athlete registered a 3rd place finish at the 2021 Europe Triathlon Cup Dnipro, sharing the podium with compatriot Harry Leleu and Rostislav Pevtsov (AZE).

Connor Bentley is set to compete at his first European race since 2019 this weekend. He enjoyed a successful youth championships at the 2018 Loutraki ETU Triathlon Youth European Championships Festival in Greece, finishing 1st in the men’s final and mixed relay.

Olivia Mathias, Sophie Alden and Sophia Green are all set to start in the women’s U23 race. Mathias returns to U23 racing after a number of elite races including AJ Bell 2021 World Triathlon Championship Series Leeds. Her last outing in U23 racing saw her take silver at the 2019 ITU World Triathlon Grand Final Lausanne.

Sophia Green continues a busy race calendar that has seen her go from strength to strength, finishing 3rd at Europe Triathlon Cup Dnipro before topping the podium in Coimbra last weekend. Sophie Alden joins Mathias and Green at the event. Alden was part of the winning mixed relay team at the 2019 Valencia ETU Triathlon U23 European Championships.

Daniel Dixon lines up for the juniors alongside Matt Howard and Joe Sherman. Dixon won the semi-final race at the Loutraki ETU Triathlon Youth European Championships Festival in 2018 where he shared the podium positions with Igor Bellido Mikhailova (ESP) and Itamar Shevach Levanon (ISR).

Bethany Cook and Daisy Davies round off the list of British athletes. Cook won her semi-final race at the 2019 Kitzbühel ETU Triathlon Youth European Championships Festival before finishing 4th in the final.

The 2021 Europe Triathlon Sprint and Relay Championships Kitzbühel will also feature mixed relay racing.

2021 World Triathlon Para Cup A Coruna

Spain welcomes a long list of British elite paratriathletes to compete in World Triathlon Para Cup action this weekend. Joshua Landmann will take to the start line in the PTWC race. Landmann raced at AJ Bell 2021 World Triathlon Para Series Leeds, finishing in 8th place.

Fran Brown (PTS2) returns to racing for the first time since 2019. Racing twice in the month of September, she took gold at both the 2019 Valencia ETU Paratriathlon European Championships and 2019 ITU World Triathlon Grand Final Lausanne.

Michael Taylor (PTS4) travels to Spain after two silver medals this year at AJ Bell 2021 World Triathlon Para Series Leeds Presented by Volvo and the 2021 World Triathlon Para Series Yokohama. Taylor will be joined on the PTS4 start line by Finley Jakes.

Claire Cashmore and Lauren Steadman race again in the PTS5 classification. The pair recorded a one-two podium finish at AJ Bell 2021 World Triathlon Para Series Leeds Presented by Volvo where Steadman took the tape before Cashmore beat the USA’s Grace Norman in a sprint finish for 2nd place.

Oscar Kelly and Rhys Jones will race in the PTVI classification. Guided by Charlie Harding and Rhys James respectively, the Brits will take on the likes of Arnaud Grandjean (FRA) and Yuichi Takahashi (JPN).

Melissa Reid will also take her place on the start line, joined by guide Rosie Lindsay. Reid most recently finished fourth at AJ Bell 2021 World Triathlon Para Series Leeds Presented by Volvo and will race amongst strong competition including Spain’s Susana Rodriguez who rose victorious at Leeds.
