British Triathlon has announced that Bill James will take on the role of Chair of the British Triathlon board at this critical time.

Bill, who replaces Dr Mary Hardwick, takes up the role having served as the Triathlon England Chair for the last five years.

He has been a member of the Triathlon England board since 2013 to which he brought his background in business leadership, advisory and change management.

As an ex rugby player Bill took part in his first triathlon 15 years ago before building up to taking part in Ironman competitions and also competing as an Age Grouper.

On his new role, Bill said: “I am looking forward to getting started as Chair of British Triathlon. I have loved this sport for over a decade both as a competitor and as a board member, and I am committed to helping us respond to the current global crisis and to ensuring we come through it safe and strong.”

British Triathlon Chief Executive, Andy Salmon said: “I want to congratulate Bill [James] on being appointed Chair of British Triathlon and I look forward to working with him in this capacity. It’s been great to work with Bill in his previous position as Chair of Triathlon England and I believe his passion and skillset will help us to emerge from the current crisis and continue the growth of swim, bike and run.”

The Triathlon England interim Chair will be appointed next week and the recruitment for Bill’s replacement will begin in due course.
