British 1-2 in first ITU Triathlon World Cup of 2017

Hall takes emphatic first ITU Triathlon World Cup victory in Cape Town last weekend, as teammate Learmonth picks up silver after sprint showdown.

Following a nail-biting sprint off in the South African capital, Lucy Hall reigned supreme, dipping just one second clear of teammate and training partner, Jessica Learmonth.

Despite facing some tough competiton in the form of 2016 ITU World bronze medallist, Ai Ueda (JPN), and 2015 European Games silver medallist, Rachel Klamer (NED), the pair led from the offset and went stride for stride all the way to the line.

The result saw both British athletes claim career firsts, with Hall's first World Cup win following her win at the Alanya ETU Triathlon European Cup in October. For Learmonth, the silver medal marked her first podium position ever in an ITU Triathlon World Cup.

She commented on Twitter (@Jess_Learmonth): "I'm so chuffed with my first World Cup podium. It made it even better sharing it with Luce."

Julie Nimmo finished in 17th place, with Britain's Hannah Howitt crossing the line in 25th.

The men's race saw a podium clean-sweep by South Africa, with Richard Murray taking top honours. Marc Austin was the best of the Brits, finishing in 7th place.

Grant Sheldon was close behind in 10th place, with Liam Lloyd and Fergus Roberts in 13th and 32nd place respectively.
