British triathletes head to Morocco for latest event

Published:

After a busy period of swim, bike, run, there’s a slight lull in the action this weekend, before a big few weeks building up to Abu Dhabi at the end of November, but there’s still British interest to follow over the next few days.

2022 Africa Triathlon Cup Tangier (23 October)

It’s another weekend and another continental cup for British triathletes with Jimmy Lund, Marcus Dey and James Chantler-Mayne travelling to Morocco for Africa Triathlon Cup Tangier.

All three have raced in the British Triathlon Senior Super Series this year including a second place finish overall for Chantler-Mayne, who won the Super Series race at AJ Bell 2022 World Triathlon Championship Series Leeds.

He’s also had international success, securing silver in the U23 and junior mixed relay at this year’s World Triathlon Relay Championships in Montreal.

Lund has also had medal success, claiming U23 silver, with a fourth finish place overall, at last month’s Europe Triathlon Aquathlon Championships, and also won the final race in the British Triathlon Senior Super Series at Eton Dorney.

Dey was second behind Lund at Eton Dorney and will wear the GB trisuit again having represented Great Britain at youth, junior and senior level including a top-20 finish at the Asia Triathlon Cup in Doha last November.

It’s a beach start into the 750m swim in the Strait of Gibraltar and then a five-lap bike course of 20km along the beachfront, before three laps on the promenade for the 5km run to the finish.

Still to come in 2022…

This year’s Super League Triathlon Championship Series comes to an end next weekend (29 October) in Neom, Saudi Arabia where the series titles will be decided. The same weekend will see the IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship taking place in St. George, USA.

Then it’s into November and the final two races of the 2022 World Triathlon Championship Series with Bermuda on 5-6 November before the Championship Finals in Abu Dhabi from 24-26 November.

World champions will be crowned at the World Triathlon Para Triathlon Championships on 24 November, which are also taking place in Abu Dhabi, along with Age-Group Championships.

There’s also still one more Great Britain Age-Group Team Qualifier to come at Grafham Duathlon next weekend (30 October), a qualifier for the 2023 World Standard Distance Duathlon Championships.

Although that’s the final qualifying opportunity of 2022, there are plenty of opportunities to try and qualify in 2023 with next year’s calendar already announced for anyone looking to represent the GB Age-Group Team in 2024.
