British Triathlon Supports Ian Howard as a World Triathlon Presidential Candidate

Published:

Ian Howard, former British Triathlon Chair and President has received the organisation’s full support as he aims to become World Triathlon President at this year’s elections.

The elections will be held at the XXXVII World Triathlon Congress at Torremolinos (Málaga), Spain on 21 October.

He competed at the first British Championships in 1983 and, since then, has had a huge involvement in the sport as an athlete, volunteer and in an official capacity. He raced at both World and European Championships as a member of the British Age-Group team before supporting his fellow triathletes as a Team Manager. He is also a Level 2 Coach with his local club.

In 2007 he acted as Independent Board Member for Business and Legal Affairs on the newly created British Triathlon Board and was named Deputy Chair that same year, holding the role until 2012. He was then British Triathlon Chair and President from 2013-2019 and has held various international roles including Vice-President of both Europe and World Triathlon and President of the Association of Commonwealth Triathlon National Federations.

Howard said: "Triathlon has been part of my life for well over 40 years. I love our sport. It’s in my blood, touches my heart, and has given me so much enjoyment, passion and focus for more than four decades.

"While we are in a stable place as a sport, I know, deep down, that we can – and should – be doing so much more to become a mainstream sport globally.

"We have enormous potential, and I would be a President with the vision, drive, and determination to unlock that potential.

"If you grant me the huge honour of becoming your next President, I will work tirelessly to deliver on this exciting ambition.”
