Alison Peasgood and Hannah Moore pick up gold medals at Milan World Paratriathlon Series, with Dave Ellis, George Peasgood and Andy Lewis all stepping onto the podium at the first international event of 2019.

Peasgood, in her first ever outing alongside paratriathlon guide, Nikki Bartlett, showed the results of hard training over the last few months by posting one of her quickest ever runs. Having exited the water a few seconds clear of eventual PTVI silver medallist, Susanna Rodriguez, the 2016 World Champion continued to open the gap to finish over a minute clear of her Spanish rival.

Hannah Moore continued her winning streak in Milan.

The Women’s PTS4 race was dominated by Hannah Moore who, following a fantastic swim, crossed the line six minutes ahead of USA’s Kelly Elmlinger. The gold medal win extends the fine run of form the 22-year-old experienced in 2018, culminating in a World Championship title last September.

There were silver medals for both George Peasgood in the PTS5 race and Dave Ellis (Guide: Mark Buckingham) in the Men’s PTVI, despite both experiencing mechanical problems during their respective races. Ellis was forced to take a 70-second stop whilst bike issues were sorted, which prevented what could have developed into an exciting sprint finish between himself and champion Héctor Catalá Laparra.

Paralympic Champion, Andy Lewis also picked up a deserved silver medal in the Men’s PTS2 race, finishing behind Jules Ribstein of France. After feeling flat pre-race, Joe Townsend couldn’t battle with the Dutch athletes for a podium spot in the PTWC, eventually finishing fifth, with Steve Crowley crossing the line to take seventh in the PTS4 race.

Jonathan Riall, British Triathlon Paratriathlon Head Coach, said:

“After a hard block of winter training, it’s good to get the season started and really see where we’re at. Overall, it’s been a positive day for the team, with some athletes having a fantastic start to 2019. Some experienced a bit of bad luck today, which can’t be helped, and some things didn’t quite go to plan for others.

“But we’ll take the positives from today and make sure that we’re building towards a set of strong performances come Yokohama next month.”
