Brownlee wins; Lewis & Lawrence on Dubai 70.3 podium

Published:

Alistair Brownlee dominated his comeback race with a storming win at the IRONMAN 70.3 Dubai this morning. His 1hr 58minute bike split over 56mile gave him a cushion over the rest of the field at the start of the 13.1 mile run.

Hip surgery ended his season early last August, but Brownlee demonstrated just how well his rehab and return to full fitness has gone. Racing over the middle-distance event covering 1900m swim, 56mile bike and 13.1mile run he completed the course in a stunning time of 3:35.32. Second place was another Olympic medal winner, Sven Riederer (SUI) in 3:42:05.

Bronwlee was happy to be back to winning ways, commenting on Twitter: “Great to win at 70.3 Dubai this morning. Thanks for all the support on the course and any suggestions what to do with an afternoon off in Dubai? Preferably that doesn’t involve stairs.”

The women’s race was won by former ITU star, Anne Haug (GER) in 4:00:25. British athletes claimed second, third, sixth and seventh. Sarah Lewis overtook former world champion, Holly Lawrence, to claim second in 4:05:19. Lawrence had established a lead after the bike, but Haug and Lewis were stronger on the run today.
