Cardiff Hosts British Elite Championship, Lloyd back for ETU Cup

The British Elite Triathlon Championships take centre stage this weekend for senior and junior athletes hoping to be crowned national champions in Cardiff. Liam Lloyd features in the ETU Cup line up in Belgium, and there are Age-Group qualification races in Cardiff and Kent.

British Elite Triathlon Championships, Cardiff

Elite triathletes compete alongside juniors in Cardiff in Sunday. There are also open waves and Age-Group sprint qualification races for the ITU World Championships.

The British Elite Championships take place over the sprint distance and Adam Bowden is set to take part in his adopted home town after a glittering silver medal winning performance at the IRONMAN 70.3 European Championships at the weekend. He is the defending champion, but a new women’s champion will be crowned with Beth Potter not racing this year.

Barclay Izzard, Zoe Thomas and Sophie Alden are amongst the title challengers lining up at Cardiff Bay. You can watch all the action live online from 9.55am, Sunday here (Elite Men’s start - 10:30, Elite Women start - 11:15).

2018 & 2019 ITU Sprint Distance Qualifier, Cardiff Triathlon

Cardiff also hosts the final 2018 ITU Sprint Distance Qualifier, which gives Age-Group athletes a chance to qualify for the world championships in Australia in September. Competitors will also have the chance to qualify for the 2019 Lausanne ITU Sprint Distance Triathlon World Championships.

2019 ITU Standard Distance Triathlon Qualifier, Leeds Castle Triathlon

Leeds Castle in Kent welcomes Age Group athletes to the Leeds Castle for the final chance to qualify for the 2019 ITU Lausanne ITU Standard Distance Triathlon World Championships taking place next year.

2018 Wuustwezel ETU Sprint Triathlon European Cup, Belgium

Liam Lloyd has recovered from the injury that put him out of the Welsh Commonwealth Games team and takes on a strong international field in Belgium on Saturday.
