Castle Virtual Series raises almost £30,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support

As mass gathering cancellations happened throughout 2020, Castle Series has responded by hosting a variety of virtual events that support Macmillan Cancer Support as well as local charities.

The Castle Virtual Series is part of the Castle Series of triathlon, running and swimming events, which is hosted at five iconic castles across the UK, Ireland and France for a range of abilities, from beginners to professional triathletes.

The Spring Virtual Series welcomed a total of 2,931 racers, from 23 countries. With racers ranging from 7-72 years old, the series was a great success, allowing athletes to stay connected, keep fit and raise an incredible £28,025 for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Lough Cutra Castle in Galway, Ireland would have been the Castle Series season opener, however, the event’s cancelation led to the creation of the ‘Luck of The Irish’ virtual event which proved to be a hit amongst the Castle Series community.

Brian Adcock, Race Director for the Castle Virtual Series said: “Determined not to let the pandemic and its consequences get us down, we were nimble enough to bring forward plans for a winter virtual series, and the Spring Virtual Series of races was born. A few weeks later we have successfully put on four virtual races, had just shy of 3,000 participants, engaged with thousands more and raised a staggering £28,025 for Macmillan.”

Adcock continued: “Conscious of our responsibilities towards our sponsors and charity partners, and still unsure when the real race season will get the green light, we have decided to keep going and are delighted to bring you the next two races in the Series.”

This weekend welcomes the return to virtual racing for the Castle Series, with cancellations of the Cholmondeley Castle and Festival of Endurance at Hever Castle events making way for The Cheshire Cat virtual event this weekend and The Kentish Horse virtual event between 3-5 July.

Local charities for each region will also benefit alongside Macmillan, with the two upcoming events supporting both the Neuro Muscular Centre in Cheshire and Jigsaw South East in Kent. Competitors will be able to make additional donations when they sign up or via JustGiving fundraising.
