Clubs gear up for inaugural European clash

The first ETU Triathlon Clubs European Championships takes the spotlight this weekend, with two Great Britain clubs going for gold in Nice.

Arragons Cumbrian Triathlon Club and Hoddesdon Tri Club successfully secured their British tri suits after qualifying at the Triathlon Relays in Nottingham last month. The mixed-team format saw two male and two female athletes each take on a 300m swim, 5km bike and 1.5km run, with the top performing teams in the heats successfully gaining the honour of competing for Great Britain.

Arragons Cumbrian Triathlon Club will be represented by Vicky Johnston, Stuart Robinson, Rhiannon Silson and Jon Fletcher; with Robinson replacing James Douglas from the original qualifying team.

Hoddesdon Tri Club comprises Hannah Bates, Cindy Berry, Ian Brinkley and Joe Rees. Brinkley is a new addition to the team, taking the place of Chris Price who helped qualify the team at the National Water Sports Centre.

The race will take on the ITU relay competition format, whereby each team member will complete the entire course before the next member can begin. Teams will begin their bids on the southern French coastline where they will complete a 300m out and back swim before tackling a two-lap 6.8km bike along the sea front. The final 1.8km run is a one lap test before they pass the baton to the following team member.

17 international federations will be represented, all hoping to be the first to claim the ETU Triathlon Clubs European Championship title.

The action begins at 12:45pm (local time), Sunday 4 October. Follow @ETUtriathlon for race updates. For more information, please visit here
