The triathlon events at the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games take place on Thursday 5th and Saturday 7th April. Britain’s Home Nations have strong teams in the individual and Mixed Relay events, and the Games are now underway.
⚠️ Note the individual races are live on BBC1 Wednesday night into Thursday morning UK time and the Paratriathlon and Mixed Relay are Friday night into Saturday morning. If you are recording the races and do not wish to know the results, please stay away from our social media channels! ⚠️
Defending champion, Alistair Brownlee has already won a middle-distance triathlon this year. He now takes to the flat and fast sprint distance course alongside his brother, Jonathan, who famously won silver behind him at the Glasgow 2014 Games.
Vicky Holland is another medal winner returning to the Commonwealth Games. She took individual bronze four years ago, which provided a springboard to Olympic bronze in Rio. She also combined with the Brownlee brothers and Jodie Stimpson to help win the Mixed Relay gold medal.
Joe Townsend, Jade Jones-Hall and Karen Darke also bring Paralympic experience and medal prospects to the Paratriathlon on Saturday 7 April.
There’s plenty more depth in the Home Nations teams, which are detailed below.
British Triathlon Performance Director, Brendan Purcell, commented: “The preparation camps have gone very well. Some less experienced athletes have had the opportunity to work alongside senior athletes who have already enjoyed Commonwealth Games success.”
He added: “We’ve only just come out of winter in the UK, and the competition here on the Gold Coast is going to be fierce. To be successful, athletes are going to have to be sharp on this fast sprint course, but also have very good technical skills across all of the events; triathlon, paratriathlon and mixed relay.”
