Dan Dixon was third at 2022 Americas Triathlon Cup Sarasota-Bradenton, while Iona Miller and Harry Leleu both narrowly missed out on podium places at the opening Europe Triathlon Cup event of 2022 as they finished fourth in Liévin, France.
It was a memorable first senior individual international race for Dixon who crossed the line third in the Americas Triathlon Cup event in Florida, USA. The British sprint triathlon champion was the quickest in the swim and remained in contention across the bike and run to finish third in a time of 00:29:23, nine seconds behind race winner Richard Murray.
Sam Mcinnes was the sole British representative in the women’s race, finishing 21st in her first international event.
Miller, Leleu, Chris Perham and Jamie Price all competed at the first Europe Cup of the season, with the whole event taking place indoors as athletes raced up to four times throughout the day.
Having advanced through the day’s opening qualifier race and then the semi-finals with third and second place finishes, respectively, Miller crossed the line fourth in the women’s final. Miller’s time of 00:10:43 was five seconds behind Belgium’s Jolien Vermeylen in third and only eight seconds behind race winner Nina Eim of Germany.
In the men’s event, Leleu had already raced three times before he lined-up in the men’s final, battling back from eighth place in the qualifier to finish third in the repechage to reach the semi-finals, where he finished third to progress through to the final.
Despite the extra racing in his legs, Leleu appeared to get stronger throughout the day, finishing fourth in the final with a time of 00:09:41, eight seconds behind France’s Vincent Luis who took the men’s title.
Price and defending champion Perham, who won his opening qualifier race earlier in the day, competed in the men’s B final after finishing seventh and sixth in their semi-finals. Second place in the B final secured Price a 14th place finish overall at his first continental cup event, five places ahead of Perham who was seventh in the B final.
