Deborah James named as Official GO TRI Ambassador

Published:

Deborah James, star of multi award-winning podcast, You, Me and the Big C and columnist for The Sun, has been named as the first official ambassador of British Triathlon’s beginner product, GO TRI.

The 37-year-old, who’s frank and honest discussions about living with Bowel Cancer has won her immeasurable admiration, will help encourage her growing following to join her in taking their first steps into swim, bike, run in 2019; sharing updates and tips as she prepares to take on the AJ Bell World Triathlon Leeds on 8 June.

Deborah returns to multisport having fronted British Triathlon’s Tri January campaign earlier this year; inspiring over 5000 individuals to complete a triathlon challenge across the month. Last week it was announced that she will be a regular guest on BBC Sounds’ new podcast, The TriPod, where with the help of triathlon experts Annie Emmerson and Louise Minchin, she will discuss her journey towards taking on her very first open-water triathlon this summer.

Deborah James, GO TRI ambassador, said: “To be completely honest, the thought of me taking on a triathlon was completely daunting when I first considered it! But with the support of GO TRI, I’ve begun to believe that it’s achievable.

“I’m so proud to represent the GO TRI community and encourage even more people to get involved; helping break down the barriers I and many more face, plus showing that it can be pretty fun in the process!”

Jenny Vincent, British Triathlon Head of Participation, said: “We’re delighted to announce Deborah as our GO TRI ambassador for 2019. Her enthusiasm and sense of fun embodies what GO TRI is all about and having started her journey with us earlier this year with Tri January, we believe she will continue to inspire a new cohort of multi-sporters to achieve their personal goals.”

Deborah will be sharing her progress via social media; speaking about the highs and lows of training for her challenge and tackling everything from preparing for her first open-water swim, to balancing the three disciplines with a busy lifestyle. Prior to the AJ Bell World Triathlon Leeds, Deborah will put swim, bike and run together in an event context for the very first time when she returns to her hometown of Woking for GO TRI - You, Me and the Big C.

She will line up alongside hundreds of triathlon beginners in Roundhay Park on Saturday 8 June to take on the GO TRI at the AJ Bell World Triathlon Leeds. To join her, book your spot at Leeds.triathlon.org
