European, British and Scottish titles to be decided as championships dominate this weekend

It’s a weekend of championships with European, British and Scottish titles all to be won, as well as the finale of the Welsh Triathlon Super Series.

2022 Europe Triathlon Multisport Championships Bilbao-Bizkaia (17-24 September)

It’s already been a successful week for the Great Britain Age-Group Team at the Europe Triathlon Multisport Championships with 97 medals won across duathlon, cross duathlon and cross triathlon.

There’s still more to come over the weekend, with European titles in aquathlon the focus on Friday (23 September), before the middle distance triathlon and aquabike championships round-off the week-long multisport event on Saturday (24 September).

As well as the age group races, there’s also elite, U23 and junior events with Thomas Epton, Chris Perham, Jimmy Lund, Skip Snelson, Poppaea Bramwell-Reeks, Chloe Dooley and Callum Stedman all representing Great Britain in aquathlon. Sam Wade will compete in the elite middle distance triathlon championships.

2023 AGE-GROUP CALENDAR

2022 Challenge Sanremo (25 September)

Amongst the weekend of championships, there’s also middle distance racing at the latest Challenge event being hosted in Sanremo in north west Italy.

Lucy Byram and Tara Grosvenor have both had podiums at Challenge events this year, including the top-two in Wales in June, and they will both be on the women’s pro start list, as will Olivia Mitchell.

Starting with a 1.9km sea swim it’s then a 90km bike including a climb up the Ghimbegna pass before returning to the coast for the 21km run.

2022 British Middle Distance Triathlon Championships (25 September)

Middle distance triathlon is the final opportunity for British Triathlon Home Nation members to become British champion in 2022 with Outlaw X hosting the British Middle Distance Triathlon Championships on Sunday (25 September).

British titles and medals will be decided across the age groups as athletes race over a 1.2-mile lake swim, 56-mile rolling bike course and a 13.1 mile run with only British Triathlon Home Nation members eligible to win medals.

CHAMPIONSHIPS

2022 Scottish National Duathlon Championships (25 September)

Scottish national champions will be crowned for the final time in 2022 as St Andrews Autumn Duathlon Festival hosts the Scottish National Duathlon Championships.

The run, bike, run event will see athletes complete a 5km run, 25km bike and 2.5km run as Triathlon Scotland Core and Ultimate members compete for a place on the podium in each age group.

CHAMPIONSHIPS

2022 Welsh Triathlon Super Series (25 September)

The 2022 Welsh Triathlon Super Series will reach its conclusion this weekend when Llandudno hosts the sixth and final stage in this year’s national series.

The overall series winners will be crowned after the final event with each athlete’s best four scores across the series counting towards their individual points total.

There’s also prizes for clubs, with each club gaining points for every nominated athlete who finishes within the top-60 places within their respective age group.
