Having secured 504 medals in 2019, including 174 golds, the first Age-Group Team events of 2020 have taken place with more British success.
The beginning of the year has seen British Age-Group athletes take part in the World and European Winter Championships, with athletes bringing home a number of medals in all three colours at these run, mountain bike, cross country-ski competitions.

2020 Asiago ITU Winter Triathlon Championships
Kelley Haniver claimed the first medal of the decade for the Great Britain Age-Group Team by winning gold in the female 40-44 category. Haniver finish with a time of 00:55:09, recording the fastest run (00:16:35) and ski (00:16:53) to set her apart from the competition.
The Age-Group races were competed over 3.6km run, 6km mountain bike and 5.2km cross-country ski in the Venetian mountains. Also representing Britain in the Alps alongside Haniver were, Joanne Pitten (7th in F40-44), Frances Hooper (4th in F60-64), Nicola Don-Wilder (7th in F45-49), Christopher Gouldsmith (9th in M30-34) and Nicholas Farnell (16th in M60-64).

Following her seventh place finish in Asiago, Joanne Pitten (F40-44) secured an impressive gold in Romania to finish 29 seconds ahead of second place. There was further success for British women as Frances Hooper secured silver in the 60-64 category, finishing in a time of 01:10:16.
There was a quadruple bronze-medal-haul for the men, with Oliver Gerard-Pearse (25-29), Christopher Gouldsmith (30-34), Simon Hedley (35-39) and Nicholas Farnell (60-64) all taking their place on the podium.

2020 Punta Umbria ETU Duathlon Championships
Located in southwest Spain, Punta Umbria will host the European Duathlon Championships with 382 members of the British Age-Group Team taking part. The Spanish city will be awash with blue GB trisuits this weekend as Britain will be strongly represented in both the Sprint and Standard Distance Championships, taking part on Saturday (7 March) and Sunday (8 March) respectivley.
The sprint distance will see athletes stay within the city for both run legs and the cycle, with athletes competing in the standard distance making their way out of the city on their bike leg.
In 2019, British Age-Groupers claimed 33 gold medals when the championships was hosted in Targu Mures, Romania. The team will be looking to bring home more of the same this time around.
What is Age-Group?
The Great Britain Age-Group Team offers Home Nation Core and Ultimate members the opportunity to represent Britain at continental and international races across the triathlon and multisport disciplines.
In 2019 the Age-Group Team consisted of 2,904 athletes aged from 16-82 and secured 504 medals at 22 events including the ITU Grand Final in Lausanne and ITU Multisport World Championships in Pontevedra.
Qualification to the team is through set qualifying events or criteria, and, by and large, these take place the year before the Championship being qualified for e.g. 2020 qualifier for 2021 competition.
