First course of new Mentor Development Programme delivered

Published:

The first delivery of the recently launched British Triathlon Mentor Development Programme has now been completed as part of our mission to develop a world-leading triathlon coaching system in Great Britain.

The initial two-day course designed and delivered in partnership with Harty Roberts Consultants, leaders in the development of mentoring and coaching took place at the De Vere Horsley Park Hotel, Surrey. Thirteen delegates signed up to the course, which focused on the development of the skills and techniques required to be an effective triathlon coach mentor.

Leigh Archer, a Level 3 Triathlon Coach who took part in the course commented:  “It was great to be taken out of our comfort zone and be pushed in developing our mentoring skills. A very thought provoking weekend with a great mix of coaches.”

Paul Moss, Coaching Development Manager for British Triathlon added: “The Mentor Development Programme provides experienced triathlon coaches with the opportunity to learn new mentoring skills, refine existing coaching skills and increase their knowledge base. The programme also provides multiple opportunities to practice these skills in a relaxed non-threatening learning environment.”

He continued: “The ongoing development and support for qualified triathlon coaches is essential in the creation of a world-leading coaching system. I feel confident that the individuals who took part in our initial course in Surrey since we re-launched the programme will make a significant contribution to the sport as excellent mentors.”

The Mentor Development Programme is delivered through the Home Nations, with the first two courses being held in England. To find out more and to apply, please visit www.triathlonengland.org/get-involved/coaching
