Five Brits to line up for Team Europe in Collins Cup

Published:

With the captain’s picks being added to the automatic qualifiers, the final twelve athletes who will represent Team Europe in the inaugural Collins Cup have been announced, with British athletes sealing five of the spots.

Lucy Charles-Barclay, Holly Lawrence and Joe Skipper qualified automatically through their PTO rankings, whilst Kat Matthews and Emma Pallant-Browne were selected by the European Captains Natascha Badmann and Normann Stadler.

All five have demonstrated why they’ve been selected with consistent performances over the longer distances to achieve the qualification status or to be selected by the captains as one of their choices.

The remaining slots in the European team have gone to qualifiers Jan Frodeno, Daniela Ryf, Gustav Iden, Anne Haug and Patrick Lange, with Sebastian Kienle and Daniel Baekkegard picking up the other two captain’s picks.

The Collins Cup will pit athletes from Europe, USA and an international team against one another in twelve races, with one athlete from each team going head-to-head in each race for points for their team’s total.

The races will start at ten minute staggered intervals on Saturday 28 August in Samorin, Slovakia and comprise a 2km swim, 80km bike and 18km run.

The action will be broadcast live in the UK on Eurosport, with highlights on BT Sport. More information about the competition is available on the Collins Cup website below.
