Ful-on-Tri Club’s 10,000km charity challenge

Members of Ful-on-Tri Club in London are taking on a mammoth cycling challenge in aid of the NHS and SportsAid by cycling 10,000km in 24 hours on Saturday 27 June.

“The idea of 10,000km in a day came from a desire to raise money for charities close to our hearts and involve as many different people as possible,” said Richard Harper, Chair of Ful-on-Tri Club.

“Despite the lockdown we’ve remained pretty active as a club, establishing a full programme of virtual training sessions, as well as social evenings and quiz nights, and thought that with events postponed, this would be a great challenge for the club.”

When deciding on what challenge they’d take on as a fundraiser, the club settled on 10,000km, the combined distance of the three cycling Grand Tours (Tour de France, Giro D’Italia and Vuelta A España), plus the distance of their very own charity sportive.

“We raise money every year for SportsAid by organising the Surrey Legs of Steel sportive,” commented Harper. “The event commemorates Dave Aitchison, a member of Ful-on-Tri club and the Great Britain Age-Group Team, who passed away aged 29.

“With the current crisis, we also wanted to raise money for NHS Charities Together to show our immense gratitude for the amazing work of NHS staff and volunteers.”

SportsAid is a charity that financially aids over 1,000 athletes across Britain each year. The support they receive takes some of the burden off them and their families, helping to reduce the cost barrier to them achieving their potential.

You can find out more about SportsAid and the triathletes they support on their website here.

“This is a great opportunity for the club to pull together,” Harper added. “People are starting to think about their outdoor routes, and any distance completed indoors on the turbo also contributes”.

“We’re welcoming anyone who wants to take part, so please do get involved by donating or cycling to help us reach our target.”

The club are aiming to raise £5,000 through the challenge and you can donate to their total and find out how to get involved on the buttons below.
