This morning’s paratriathlon saw Peasgood (PST5) and Lewis (PTS2) win gold as part of their preparation for next month’s ITU world championships on the Gold Coast. Peasgood again led from gun to tape, setting up the win during the 750m swim and holding a lead over Yannick Bourseaux (FRA). His winning margin was one minute.

Lewis also won by just over a minute from Stephane Bahier (FRA). The key difference between them was Lewis’ run speed. Britain’s other competitor was Michael Taylor (PTS4), a relative newcomer gaining valuable experience and a fifth-place finish in a competitive field.

Doubling the distance, the elite men’s and women’s races took place over a challenging Olympic distance course, which features 14 ascents of a steep hill. Taking the opportunity to reacquaint himself with a course he’s enjoyed successes in the past, Brownlee expected a tough race against the tough Norwegian team, and he got it.

Brownlee said: “I came here to win and to enjoy racing again, and I certainly enjoyed it. I felt good in the run, I thought Kristian was going to go hard but then I saw another Norwegian passing and I thought 'oh, here we go'. but I had fun, and really enjoyed it. There were attacks, tactics, tough hills... and that's what we are here for.”

Lucy Hall was the best of the women in 19thplace and there was good experience for Olivia Mathias in her first Olympic distance race. This course will host the ITU Grand Final next year.
