Golden weekend for British Paratriathletes and Lucy Gossage

Commonwealth champions Joe Townsend and Jade Jones-Hall continued their success as part of a nine gold medal haul by paratriathletes at Eton Dorney, whilst further afield Lucy Gossage was the winner at IRONMAN Lanzarote.

2018 Eton Dorney ITU Paratriathlon World Cup

There was a very strong show of British Paralympians, UK Sport Lottery Funded programme athletes and talent squad members as the ITU World Cup visited Eton Dorney for the first time.

Talent Squad member Sophie Taylor who came third, said: “It’s still a little bit surreal, to be able to say I’m racing against those athletes and not just in the same event.”

IRONMAN Lanzarote

A last-minute decision to race IRONMAN Lanzarote paid off for Lucy Gossage. She set up victory on the mountain section of the bike course around Mirador Del Rio and stretched her lead a little more over the run to record her second win in Lanzarote and tenth career IRONMAN win.

Age-Group athlete Simone Mitchell ran through to take second overall, just five minutes behind Gossage. Mitchell also posted the second fastest female marathon split out across all categories. Fellow Brit athlete Nikki Bartlett was third in the Pro event. Full results can be found here.

2019 ETU Sprint Distance Duathlon Qualifier (Draft Illegal) - Darley Moor May Bank Holiday Sprint Duathlon

It was another great weekend of weather for racing and with the 2019 ETU Sprint Duathlon Qualifier on Sunday at Darley Moor, duathletes from across the UK were competing for qualification. After a third place at the Monster Duathlon earlier this year, George MacFarlane pushed through to set the fastest time of the day. Thirteen seconds behind was James Mellor closely followed by Gareth Green.

Laura Pescott took almost ten minutes off her Sprint Distance Duathlon time from Oulton Park last October, finishing with a time of 1:05:00 to take the win in the overall women’s race. Cathy Dawson came in second with Joanne Bolton coming in close behind to take third.

Challenge Salou, Spain

Laura Siddall recorded another impressive podium placing having already won IRONMAN New Zealand and Australia this season. Racing over 1.9km swim, 90km bike and 21.1km run, she finished second and George Goodwin was third.

2018 Olsztyn ETU Sprint Triathlon European Cup, Poland

Scotsman Fergus Roberts was part of a large international field racing in Poland, finishing 35th.
