Having not raced since last May in Yokohama, Vicky Holland demonstrated that her preparations for April’s Commonwealth Games are well on track with a win over the sprint distance race in Cape Town. Holland’s running was the difference between her and the rest of the field after she and Stanford helped establish a lead group of seven on the bike and then started the run together.
Silver for Stanford was also an indication of good early season form ahead of representing Wales on the Gold Coast in April. Another Commonwealth Games bound athlete, Sheldon of Scotland, finished ninth in the men’s race. Leeds based Calum Johnson was 19th.
