Never before has Britain placed four athletes in the top five of an ITU World Triathlon Series round, but that’s exactly what happened in Edmonton. There was also racing at IRONMAN Hamburg and at home.
2018 ITU World Triathlon Edmonton
Vicky Holland strikes again with an incredible attack on the run at Edmonton last weekend, leaving Ashleigh Gentle (AUS) and Georgia Taylor-Brown to battle for the remaining podium places. Jess Learmonth had a great run for fourth, and Jodie Stimpson was fifth. Jonathan Brownlee showed continuing return to form with a fifth-place finish.
Edmonton also hosted the Triathlon Mixed Relay, which saw the Brits finish sixth. The objective of the Relay Series is to qualify teams the top seven teams for the Tokyo Olympics, so every finish of seventh and above is important. Different tactics and team orders are also important to trial – this time the order was Learmonth, Brownlee, Taylor-Brown and Chris Perham.

IRONMAN Hamburg 2018
Hosting the World Triathlon Series just two weeks before, Hamburg once again hosted another major triathlon. However, this time it wasn’t possible to swim and that part of the race was replaced with a 6km run. Tim Don made his return to the IRONMAN 140.6 circuit. Joe Skipper finished second in what was a close race on the bike. Will Clarke secured fourth and Don finish ninth, marking an incredible recovery from last years accident.

2019 ITU Sprint Distance Triathlon Qualifier (Draft Legal) – Redcar Sprint Triathlon
A rough sea swim in Redcar and the wind along the closed-roads sea-front course were very windy. However, Benjamin Goddall didn’t let that stop him as he took the overall win. Dominic Coy took second and Jake Callis finished the podium in third.
In the women’s race, Olympian and former duathlon world champion, Michelle Dillon took the win. Brit Tate took second and Rebecca Lodge finish third. Hopefully Dillon’s win will mean she’ll take up her place at the ITU World Championships next summer in Lausanne.
