A busy 2022 of international events for the Great Britain Age-Group Team gets underway today (Friday 4 February) as eight athletes head to Andorra for the World Triathlon Winter Duathlon and Triathlon Championships.
The first international Age-Group event of the year will see six of the eight GB Age-Group athletes competing in both Friday’s winter duathlon and Sunday’s winter triathlon, with skiing replacing the swim in a winter triathlon.
The winter duathlon is a new format for the World Championships, with the multisport making its debut on the 2022 schedule. The run-ski format of the duathlon removes the bike, but there will still be multiple transitions to negotiate out on course, with a 4km run and 6km ski repeated three times across the event.
Jacquie Barlow (F45-49), Joanne Pitten (F45-49), Frances Hooper (F60-64), Keith Jenns (M50-54), Simon Ward (M50-54) and Nicholas Farrell (M60-64) will race in their respective age groups across both duathlon and triathlon.
On Sunday, the GB representation in the Andorran Pyrenees will increase to eight when Nicola Don-Wider (45-49 female) and Richard Wakeford (35-39 male) pull on the GB kit for the winter triathlon.
The GB Age-Group Team in Andorra includes a number of multisport medallists and athletes with regular top-10 finishes in Age-Group events.
This weekend’s season-opening international event marks the start of the Age-Group season for GB athletes, with Age-Group Team qualifiers and championships taking place throughout the year. A full list of qualifiers and championships dates can be found here.
There are many opportunities to get involved in multisport at age group level through triathlon, duathlon, aquathlon and aquabike with each discipline being showcased on British Triathlon’s website next week.
