It’s not just AJ Bell 2022 World Triathlon Championship Series Leeds this weekend

Whilst thousands of participants and spectators, including many of the world’s best triathletes, will be in Leeds, it’s not just AJ Bell 2022 World Triathlon Championship Series Leeds to look forward to this weekend.

AJ Bell 2022 World Triathlon Championship Series Leeds (11-12 June)

Roundhay Park in Leeds will host a weekend of swim, bike, run with everything from Family and Kids Swim-Run events to elite racing at AJ Bell 2022 World Triathlon Championship Series Leeds.

Entry into Roundhay Park is free across the weekend so you can watch the best athletes from around the world in the elite races and cheer on those participating over the weekend, along with live coverage of the elite races on the BBC and triathlonlive.tv/.

World Triathlon Para Cup Besancon (11 June)

Five British paratriathletes will compete in the first World Triathlon Para Cup of the year including world champions Dave Ellis (men’s PTVI), guided by Luke Pollard, and Claire Cashmore (women’s PTS5).

Cashmore heads to Besancon in France as the defending champion in the women’s PTS5 classification following victory at the same event 12 months ago and comes into this weekend’s race off the back of victory at the European Championships two weeks ago.

Ellis and Alison Peasgood (women’s PTVI) both won medals at the event in Poland and will again be on the start line in their respective races, with Peasgood winning in Besancon twice before.

Rhys Jones and his guide Rhys James will compete in the men’s PTVI as they continue their preparations ahead of representing Wales at next month’s Commonwealth Games, while Finley Jakes will compete in the men’s PTS4 having already won a World Triathlon Para Cup in Portugal last October.

Europe Triathlon Cup Coimbra (11 June)

Coimbra in Portugal is the next Europe Triathlon Cup event and there will be seven British triathletes competing across the men’s and women’s races.

Sophia Green returns to Coimbra as the defending champion having won gold in the elite women’s race 12 months ago. Green will be joined over the sprint distance by Iona Miller, who has four top-10 finishes to her name at Europe Triathlon Cup events.

In the men’s elite race, Dan Dixon has already won a Europe Triathlon Cup medal in 2022, finishing third in Quarteira in March, and he will line-up on the start line alongside Sam Dickinson, Harry Leleu, Jimmy Lund and Sam Hart.

World Triathlon Multisport Championships Targu Mures (6-12 June)

There’s already been 27 medals won by athletes representing the Great Britain Age-Group Team at the World Triathlon Multisport Championships in Targu Mures, Romania, this week.

The World Championships for cross duathlon and cross triathlon have been held earlier this week, with world titles and medals still to be earned in sprint duathlon on Friday (10 June) and in standard duathlon on Sunday (12 June).

Coverage of the elite, U23 and junior races will be available to watch live on TriathlonLIVE.tv on Friday.

British Triathlon Super Series (11 June)

The second event in the British Triathlon Senior Super Series will take place on Saturday (11 June) as part of the weekend of swim, bike, run at AJ Bell 2022 World Triathlon Championship Series Leeds.

Senior athletes will compete for Super Series points around the sprint course in Leeds, where they will also be joined by junior athletes who have been invited to support their development but will not be eligible to earn points.

British Standard Distance Triathlon Championships (12 June)

Part of the AJ Bell 2022 World Triathlon Championship Series Leeds weekend, British titles and medals will be up for grabs in each age group when the British Standard Distance Triathlon Championships are hosted in Roundhay Park on Sunday morning.

British Triathlon members who have registered for the championship waves will be eligible to be crowned British champion over the standard distance. The event will also be a Great Britain Age-Group Team Qualifier for the 2023 European Standard Distance Triathlon Championships.

CHAMPIONSHIPS & QUALIFIERS

IRONMAN 70.3 Eagleman (12 June)

After competing in her first race of 2022 last weekend at Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon, double Commonwealth champion Jodie Stimpson will be back on the start line at IRONMAN 70.3 Eagleman on Sunday (12 June).

Stimpson, who made the decision to move from standard distance to middle and long distance triathlon racing, claimed bronze last week in San Francisco and will compete over the 1.2-mile swim, 56-mile bike and 13.1-mile run in Maryland, USA.

IRONMAN North American Championship Des Moines (12 June)

Susie Cheetham will return to the IRONMAN start line at IRONMAN North American Championship Des Moines.

Cheetham is a multiple IRONMAN winner and was amongst the leaders at IRONMAN African Championship in April – her first IRONMAN since the birth of her son – before withdrawing due to the conditions.

Welsh Triathlon Super Series (12 June)

The second stage of the 2022 Welsh Triathlon Super Series heads to South Wales where Welsh clubs and age group athletes will go head-to-head across all age categories.

The TATA Steelman Standard, hosted at Eglwys Nunydd Reservoir, near Port Talbot, is the first of three events in the Super Series which will be contested over the standard distance.

Athletes earn points depending on their finishing positions which will be accumulated together to calculate the overall standings.

WELSH TRIATHLON SUPER SERIES

Great Britain Age-Group Qualifiers at Slateman Duathlon, Eastbourne Triathlon and Deva Triathlon (11-12 June)

The European Standard Distance Triathlon qualifying event at AJ Bell 2022 World Triathlon Championship Series is not the only opportunity age group athletes will get this weekend to qualify to represent the Great Britain Age-Group Team next year.

Slateman Duathlon (11 June) is a qualifier for the 2023 European Sprint Duathlon Championship Qualifier, Eastbourne Triathlon is hosting a 2023 European Sprint Triathlon Championship Qualifier on Sunday (12 June) and there’s a 2023 World Standard Aquabike Championships Qualifier at Deva Triathlon (12 June).

Athletes must register their intent to qualify for the 2023 Championships by 5pm on the Friday before the qualifying race.
