Juniors bring home medals from Riga, European Championship wrap up

The European Championships dominated the weekend at home, but there was success elsewhere in Europe with British juniors winning four medals at the Riga ETU European Cup event, including gold for Daniel Dixon. Middle distance racers also enjoyed success at Challenge Turku in Finland.

The European Championships 2018 – Glasgow

Jess Learmonth added European silver to the Commonwealth silver she won at the start of the season. She was delighted with the result, finishing behind the ever-green Nicola Spirig (SUI). Rising star, Cassandra Beaugrand (FRA) finished third.

Alistair Brownlee started his first Olympic distance race this season along side Barclay Izzard and hometown hero Marc Austin. There were no medals but plenty of drama with Brownlee finishing fourth, Izzard grabbing a brilliant top ten result and Marc Austin crashing heavily but battling to the finish. He later discovered he’d fractured a bone in his lower back, and will miss the rest of season.

615 British Age-Group athletes suited up in the red, white and blue on Saturday, hauling in an impressive 67 medals.
