Late-season racing for British endurance athletes in USA

Published:

The calendar may have turned over this week to December, but there’s still some late-season racing for British athletes to look forward to this weekend (4-5 December) over longer distances in the USA.

CLASH Daytona

There will be plenty of British interest on the start line of the CLASH Daytona event in Florida, USA, on Saturday (4 December).

Double Commonwealth Games gold medallist Jodie Stimpson lines-up for her final race of 2021, returning to Florida where she claimed victory at Challenge Miami in March. Stimpson will be joined in Daytona by a host of other British athletes including Lucy Hall, who has been a regular on the podium this year with wins in Gdynia, Samorin and Budva.

Laura Siddall and India Lee are also confirmed on the Daytona start list at the end of a 2021 season that has seen them both record multiple podium finishes.

In the men’s pro race, Thomas Davies returns to Daytona, 12 months after finishing 12th in the PTO 2020 Championship, while Outlaw Half Holkham and IRONMAN 70.3 Gdynia winner James Teagle is another British athlete to look out for.

The event will see athletes covering 100km at the Daytona International Speedway circuit, with all the action taking place inside and on the circuit. A 2km swim in Lake Lloyd, the lake inside the track, will be followed by an 80km bike leg over 20 laps of the race track before a four-lap, 18km run.

IRONMAN 70.3 Indian Wells, La Quinta

More British athletes will also be in action on the west side of the USA, with a British quartet named on the start list for IRONMAN 70.3 Indian Wells, La Quinta on Sunday (5 December).

Four-time IRONMAN 70.3 champion Elliot Smales, Ian Dempsey and James Scott-Farrington are set the race in the men’s event, while Tara Grosvenor will feature in the women’s race at the end of season of multiple top-10 finishes.

Located near Palm Springs, California, Lake Cahuilla is the host of the 1.2-mile swim, before the athletes will take on a bike course of 56 miles and then a 13.1 mile run finishing at the Indian Wells Tennis Gardens.
