Liam Lloyd withdrawn from Team Wales Triathlon Squad

Published:

After careful consideration and discussion with the Welsh Triathlon Head Coach, and medical team, Liam Lloyd has taken the decision to withdraw from Team Wales due to injury.

Liam was due to compete in the Triathlon Mixed Team Relay event at the forthcoming Commonwealth Games, and will now be replaced by Chris Silver

Whilst Liam is clearly very disappointed not to be able to compete, he will now turn his attention to his recovery and opportunities to represent both Wales and Great Britain in the future.

Liam wishes his fellow athletes and all of Team Wales the very best for the Games: “Obviously it is really hard to take, that I will be unable to race at the Commonwealth Games. However I’m sure that my team mates will represent Team Wales to the best of their ability.”

Luke Watson, Head Coach, said: “We are all disappointed for Liam, however we would like to commend him on his approach to making this decision. As a team we are happy that Chris will be an able replacement, and are now focused on supporting each other to deliver our best performances at the Games.”

Twenty-seven-year-old Chris Silver was already training with the Welsh squad on the Sunshine Coast. He has been selected based on having finished third at last summer’s Commonwealth Games Relay Qualification race. He joins Iestyn Harrett, Olivia Mathias and Wales Team Captain, Non Stanford, in the Triathlon Mixed Relay place on Saturday 7 April (4.01am UK time on Saturday morning).
