London Fields Triathlon Club are preparing to cycle for twelve hours on their turbo trainers in a 12-for-12 fundraising challenge for the NHS on Saturday 18 April.
Starting at 7am, members will cycle for the entirety of a standard 12 hour NHS shift, with the aim of seeing how much they can raise and how far they can go without actually moving from their homes by using Zwift.
Club chairman, Francesco Mattia, said: “It's more time than any of us have ever spent continuously on a turbo trainer so will definitely be a challenge.
“We have many friends, teammates and family members working on the frontline, so we want to do this to help to protect them and support existing campaigns raising money for Personal Protective Equipment.”
With the current COVID-19 crisis, the club are wanting to do their bit to support the frontline staff and raise £1200 to donate as part of the ‘Masks for NHS Heroes’ campaign.
There are multiple ways to get involved and support the club in their fundraising including joining them for part of the ride on Zwift or watching and cheering them as they stream on Zoom.
“We will even have a DJ set live on Zoom during the last hour of the event,” Mattia added. “We're coming up with more things to make it a memorable day and raise as much as we can.”
