Medals galore during a weekend of British wins and podiums

It was a weekend of British success with wins at World Triathlon Championship Series Cagliari, Europe Triathlon Cup Ceuta and IRONMAN 70.3 Venice-Jesolo, as well as silver for Lucy Charles-Barclay at the IRONMAN World Championships.

2022 World Triathlon Championship Series Cagliari

Georgia Taylor-Brown and Alex Yee both secured their third World Triathlon Championship Series wins of 2022, while Jonny Brownlee returned to the podium on a successful day for British triathletes in Cagliari.

It was a strong showing throughout the British team with the British one-two in the men’s race coming after Taylor-Brown, Sophie Coldwell (7th), Beth Potter (10th) and Kate Waugh (12th) all crossed the line in the top-15 in the women’s race.

The win for Taylor-Brown extends her lead at the top of the women's Maurice Lacroix World Triathlon Championship Rankings with Yee moving up to fourth in the men's rankings after his maximum points in Italy.

2022 Europe Triathlon Cup Ceuta

Hugo Milner claimed his first international victory in swim, bike, run as he won at Europe Triathlon Cup Ceuta.

Milner put himself in a good position after both the swim and bike, beforethen showcasing the running ability that has seen him represent Great Britain in cross-country and gain an athletics scholarship at Harvard University.

Posting the fastest run split of the day, Milner finished eight seconds ahead of the rest of the field to claim his maiden international victory in triathlon.

British Triathlon Senior Super Series champion Hamish Reilly also finished in the top-10, placing ninth, with Sam Hart crossing the line in 22nd, Reuben Trotter 27th and Fynn Batkin 30th. James Chantler-Mayne was disqualified after not stopping at the penalty box.

Katie Rodda was 19th in the women’s race, recording another top-20 finish at continental cup level following a 17th place in Alhandra last month.

2022 IRONMAN World Championships Kona

Another IRONMAN World silver for Lucy Charles-Barclay led the British pro results at the IRONMAN World Championships in Kona where Fenella Langridge, Laura Siddall and Joe Skipper also secured top-10 spots in the pro races.

Charles-Barclay finished just under eight minutes back from race winner Chelsea Sodaro (USA) to earn her fourth successive silver medal at Kona, with Langridge sixth and Siddall tenth. Susie Cheetham crossed the line in 11th, Ruth Astle 14th and Chantel Sainter 29th, with Simone Mitchell a DNF.

In the men’s pro race, Joe Skipper recorded his highest finish at the Kona event, crossing the line fifth, with David McNamee not finishing.

There were also a number of age group successes with several British triathletes finishing in their age group’s top-10’s. Martin Gannon won the male 65-69 age group and Anna Lawson set the fifth fastest female time overall to claim second place in the 25-29 age group.

2022 IRONMAN 70.3 Venice-Jesolo

It was a day of firsts at the first ever IRONMAN 70.3 Venice-Jesolo with Lucy Byram claiming her first IRONMAN 70.3 pro victory.

Byram was part of a British one-two in the swim with the Challenge Wales winner following Rosie Weston out of the water, before Byram took control on the early stages of the bike to win by over two minutes.

Weston went onto finish ninth with Rachel Brown crossing the line in 14th.

Tom Bishop was the highest placed Brit in the men’s pro race, finishing seventh, ahead of Will Draper in 10th and Andrew Horsfall-Turner in 20th.
