Mixed relay amongst triathlon races included in new BBC three-year broadcast partnership

The BBC and British Triathlon have entered a three-year broadcast partnership for UK coverage of the World Triathlon Championship Series. The deal continues the BBC’s commitment to broadcast every race of the Series live on BBC digital platforms with the UK leg live on linear platforms.

In the wake of successive Olympic and Paralympic Games successes, the partnership aims to further deepen the sports’ coverage at a national level throughout the cycle, not just at Games time.

The World Triathlon Championship Series will be covered throughout the season, starting this weekend in Yokohama (live on BBC iPlayer, Saturday 14 May from 02.00 BST).  That will be followed by the WTCS Leeds event on 11–12 June (individual races live on BBC Network TV during afternoon of Saturday 11 and mixed relay on BBC Network TV during afternoon of Sunday 12).

Andy Salmon, CEO of British Triathlon, said: “We are delighted to enable more triathlon events to be covered by the BBC over the next three years. It’s great for triathlon fans as well as wider sports fans who are interested in seeing our top athletes compete individually and together in the mixed relay format. It also supports our work to inspire people to take up swim, bike, run.

“Our male and female athletes compete on the same courses, and receive equal prize money and coverage, a founding principle within the sport and one which we’re really proud of.”
