Plenty of podium spots for British athletes this weekend after supertri hit Chicago and Tallin hosted IRONMAN.
After silvers at supertri Boston a week ago, Crown Racing’s Georgia Taylor-Brown and Hayden Wilde made their long-awaited return to the top of the podium at supertri Chicago.
Taylor-Brown was close to the front for much of the nine-stage triathlon women’s event before the 30-year-old seized the initiative on the final leg of the day to score victory for her Crown Racing squad.
Taylor-Brown’s Crown Racing teammate and the newly-crowned Olympic champion, Cassandre Beaugrand, finished second, with Taylor Spivey finishing third on home soil for the Stars & Stripes squad.
Of the other British athletes competing, Liv Mathias came in fourth, Beth Potter sixth and Jess Fullagar eighth.
In the men’s event, Wilde secured a statement win ahead of Podium Racing’s Léo Bergere and Vasco Vilaça of Stars & Stripes.
Alex Yee finished 44secs behind Wilde in eighth position with Max Stapley in 13th and Connor Bentley in 14th.
Long distance success for Kat Matthews
Kat Matthews took second place at Sunday’s IRONMAN 70.3 at Tallin finishing two minutes and 59 seconds behind the German athlete, Caroline Pohle. Kate Curran came in fifth, Lizzie Rayner 12th followed closely by Megan McDonald in 13th. Rosie Wild came in 16th.
In the men’s event, GBR’s highest place finisher was Thomas Davis in 13th position with Sam Dickinson taking 19th place.
