Morpeth Duathlon provides an Easter treat in the North East

The Morpeth Duathlon took place yesterday on Monday 1 April 2013 representing the second opportunity for age-group duathletes to book their place in the Great Britain Age-Group Team for the 2013 Ottawa ITU Sprint Duathlon World Championships in August later this year.

The event took place in the market town of Morpeth and hosted an opening run course of 5.5km followed by a 29km bike and final 3.5km run route. 

First overall was David Thomas of York Triathlon Club who finished in a time of 01:20.40. David’s nearest rival was Garry Walker of Coalfields RT who finished in 01:22.04.

Paul Brown of Godleys Cycles finished in third place overall, crossing the line in 01:23.03. 

In the women’s race, Jessica Bacon also of York triathlon Club claimed the victory, finishing in a time of 01:33.19. Jessica had almost a five-minute lead on runner-up Georgia Campbell of Coalfield RT who completed the course in 01:38.07.

Kerry Gowland also of Coalfield RT finished in third place overall with a time of 01:40.39.

The event was the second opportunity to qualify for the Great Britain Age-Group Team after the Clumber Park Classic Duathlon was rearranged to the 11 May following the recent heavy snowfall.
