Non Stanford celebrated with Europe Triathlon Executive Board Award

After a successful racing career spanning more than a decade and having transitioned into a coach at British Triathlon’s Performance Centre in Leeds, Non Stanford has been recognised at the Europe Triathlon Annual Gala with their Executive Board Award.

Stanford’s competitive career came to a fitting conclusion in 2022 as the 2013 World Champion bowed out of racing by becoming European Champion and winning silver in the mixed relay for Wales at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games.

The winner of the Executive Board Award is decided by the board themselves, with Stanford being named this year’s recipient in light of the success and impact she made during her competitive career and since her transition into coaching.

In 2021, Stanford was voted onto the British Olympic Association’s Athletes’ Commission and also sits on the World Triathlon Athlete Committee, both roles ensuring that athletes’ viewpoints remain at the heart of decision making.

Stanford was also appointed to the World Triathlon Environmental Sustainability Commission as the athlete representative, working to help drive and promote sustainability and sustainable practices.

Ahead of her final season, Stanford undertook her British Triathlon Level 2 Coaching Qualification and was appointed to her role as Assistant Triathlon Coach at the centre in Leeds.

Speaking at the time of her transition into coaching, Stanford said: "Stepping away from competitive triathlon has been a difficult decision. I've had such an amazing experience on the World Class programme, despite the many ups and downs that I've faced during my career; and that's largely thanks to the people, both athletes and staff.

“But knowing I'll still be working with the team, albeit in a different capacity, is really exciting, and I can't wait to continue my journey with British Triathlon.

“Ever since being mentored by Dame Kelly Holmes in my teenage years, I've been intent on one day paying that forward, by giving back to the sport that has given me so much. I'm incredibly grateful that British Triathlon has given me the opportunity to make this passion a reality."
