London Aquatics Centre takes centre stage this weekend as the Arena Games Triathlon Series powered by Zwift returns to London, where there will be strong British representation, while Jonny Brownlee will be among the British triathletes competing over the middle distance in the Canary Islands.

Arena Games Triathlon Series London (23 April)

This Saturday the second event of the 2022 Arena Games Triathlon Series powered by Zwift heads to London, where there will be plenty of home support for the 11 British triathletes taking on the unique swim, bike, run format inside the London Aquatics Centre.

Olympic champions Jess Learmonth, Georgia Taylor-Brown and Alex Yee will all feature in the event which consists of a 200m pool swim, 4km static bike on Zwift and 1km treadmill run on Zwift, although the order of the disciplines change with the second stage of the final contested over a run, bike, swim format.

The format and start lists should make for an enthralling day of racing in London, with the heats in the morning before the finals take place late afternoon. After the series opener in Munich earlier this month, London will be a chance for the competing triathletes to put themselves in strong positions ahead of the series finale in Singapore next month, where the first eSports Triathlon World Champion will be crowned.

Beth Potter won in London last year and already has maximum points in this year’s series following her dominant win in Munich two weeks ago but will face competition from a strong women’s field in London which includes Olympic gold medallists Georgia Taylor-Brown and Jess Learmonth, who won the inaugural Arena Games in 2020.

Potter and Taylor-Brown will be in heat one alongside fellow Brits Iona Miller, Sophia Green and Hollie Ellott, with eight British women competing in London this weekend. Learmonth, Kate Waugh and Sian Rainsley are the three British triathletes in heat two.

The men’s event includes Olympic gold and silver medallist Alex Yee who will be hoping to better his sixth-place finish from Munich when he races in his home city on Saturday. Yee will take to the blocks in the first heat, while Gordon Benson, who was seventh in Munich, and Arena Games debutant Harry Leleu are in heat two.
