The national governing body for swim, bike, run in Britain, British Triathlon, have announced Swiss footwear company On as their Official Footwear Supplier.
The partnership will see On support British Triathlon in their objectives to grow participation in swim, bike, run across Britain, as well as provide current Home Nation members with access to the latest generation of On shoes.
Launching the partnership, there will be member-exclusive competitions for Triathlon England, Triathlon Scotland and Welsh Triathlon members respectively, with each Home Nation giving away two pairs of trainers as prizes. More information will be available through each Home Nation.
On already have connections with British Triathlon, with World Class Programme athlete Tom Bishop being sponsored by the footwear manufacturer.
Both organisations have sustainability as central to their thinking. British Triathlon have established a ‘Sustainability Commission’ to produce an action plan and agenda on how participation in the sport can become more sustainable and fit for the future.
The organisation’s events in Leeds and Swansea are also submitting documentation as part of World Triathlon’s Sustainability Certificate, and the governing body have also signed up to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change Sports for Climate Action Declaration and Race to Zero campaign.
On as a global company have defined limiting climate change and reducing greenhouse gas emissions among the top focus areas for their sustainability strategy. It is one of three priorities alongside the use of sustainable materials and the creation of circular products. As one new initiative, they have established ‘Cyclon’, a circular subscription service for fully recyclable running shoes like the Cloudneo, which will launch later this year.
Speaking about the partnership announcement, British Triathlon CEO, Andy Salmon, said: “When we take on new partners at British Triathlon, we always want to make sure that we have shared values and commitments to important issues such as sustainability.
“The efforts that On have gone to in innovating their recyclable trainers and supporting their subscribers with advice on climate change and sustainability are in line with our own ambitions on sustainability, and I’m excited to see how we can work together to further progress in this area and develop swim, bike, run.”
Marc Maurer, Co-CEO of On said: “We are very happy to supply British Triathlon with the right footwear for their daily efforts. We support British Triathlon in their quest to grow swim, bike and run and share the mission to ultimately inspire human beings to move.”
