Paratri stars head to velodrome for National Track Championships

Three stars of Great Britain’s Paratriathlon squad will take part in the HSBC UK | National Track Championships starting in Manchester tomorrow. The National Cycling Centre will host Olympic and Paralympic stars, including Alison Patrick, Hazel Macleod and George Peasgood, 27-29 January.

Rio silver medallist, Patrick, will compete in the events for visually impaired cyclists piloted by Helen Scott. She said: “I am doing the National Track Championships to break up winter training and improve my bike skills.”

She added: “I’m taking part in the pursuit, kilo (1km TT) and flying 200m. It's all about learning through working with different people to improving my confidence.”

Macleod (nee Smith), who guided Patrick in Rio, is also competing. She said: “It's an exciting opportunity to do something completely different and learn new skills. I'm competing with Lora Fachie in the kilo, 3km pursuit and flying 200m. I hope to have a fun first experience of a track event and soak up the atmosphere.”

I love riding and racing on the bike, and this year will look to be integrated, not just an international paratriathlete; but an international paracyclist too.

George Peasgood has already proven his time trialling ability, having finished second at the BC National Paracycling Time Trial Championships in April. Now he takes to the boards in the much shorter disciplines of the kilo and 4km individual pursuit after a tough week of training with the Great Britain paratriathlon squad in Loughborough.

He said: “I'm participating in the British Cycling Track Nationals mainly as a bit of fun and enjoyment, but also to race more in the discipline of track riding. I love riding and racing on the bike, and this year will look to be integrated, not just an international paratriathlete; but an international paracyclist too.”
